Tuition to Intuition: The Constructivist Perspective on second Language Pedagogy (2006)
Transcend, Calicut University, P.O., Kerala.

Tuition to Intuition captures the various theoretical postulates of Anandan’s cognitive Interactionist Approach in second language pedagogy. His claims on second language acquisition, derives inputs from Chomsky’s UG theory, SLA theories (Krashen, Cook), Gestalt theory (Wertheimer, Kaffka), humanistic theories (Maslow), and Whole Language (Weaver). He presents a historical account of ELT starting from the Grammar translation method down the line to the much acclaimed communicative language teaching. According to him there are two major issues faced by traditional ELT methods: one, they fail to address the innate language system and two, they assume that language teaching is just like a brick laying process.

The shift from behaviorist model to constructivist model of language teaching ushers Anandan to look for the points of dichotomy in approach, the process, the materials, the methods, the classroom environment and what not, all important for language learning.
